Will a Bidet Seat Fit My Existing Toilet?

A bidet seat can fit your existing toilet if the bowl shape, mounting-hole spacing and tank clearance match the selected seat, and the required water and power connections are available. Bidet seats are not universal. A round bowl needs a seat designed for that profile; the elongated B04 and V-shaped T1 have their own fitment requirements.

You can keep the existing ceramic when it passes the fitment check. Before ordering, compare the T1 and B04 bidet seats, measure the toilet and send front, top and side photographs with a tape measure visible for a model-specific compatibility review.

How to measure your toilet for a bidet seat

Remove the existing seat where practical. Record the bowl profile, the distance between the bolt-hole centers, the distance from the holes to the front rim, bowl width and the clearance from the holes to the tank. Check that the mounting hardware is accessible from above or below as required by the selected kit. Do not use overall seat length as a substitute for the mounting dimensions.

T1 fitment checklist

The T1 product fitment guide gives the following requirements. These measurements apply to the T1, rather than every bidet seat. Inch and foot values are approximate conversions; use the original metric dimensions for approval.

The first three describe the ceramic. The last two describe the room, and they are the two most often skipped — a seat that fits perfectly on a pan with no reachable outlet is still an unusable installation, and an extension cord is not an acceptable remedy on a mains-heated appliance in a wet room.

Take the mounting-hole measurement centre to centre, with the old seat removed if possible. If the existing seat is still fitted, measure between the visible bolt caps and note that the reading is approximate.

B04 dimensions and mounting range

The B04 specification lists an elongated seat measuring 513 × 396 × 103 mm (20.20 × 15.59 × 4.06 in), with a mounting-plate adjustment range of 125–190 mm (approximately 4.92–7.48 in). Its open-lid length and height are 534 mm and 555 mm. These are product and mounting dimensions, not proof that every elongated bowl fits.

Compare the complete drawing with your ceramic, including hinge position, front-rim alignment and open-lid clearance. The B04 user manual provides the installation reference.

Tank shape: what adapts and what does not

The supplied T1 fitment guide identifies straight, slightly forward and slightly backward water-tank shapes as adaptable. Square water-tank toilets and some irregular ceramic profiles are not suitable.

A bidet seat needs the hinge housing to sit flat behind the bolt holes and the lid to clear the tank face through its full swing. Tank shape alone cannot establish compatibility across all brands: check the mounting area and the selected seat’s drawing together. The T1 exclusions above should not be read as a universal rule for every bidet seat.

When the shape is ambiguous — one-piece designs, skirted pans, and heavily styled European ceramics are the usual candidates — send a side-on photograph of the actual toilet. That single image resolves the question faster than any written description, and it is the first thing our technical team asks for.

Bowl shape has to match the seat

Seats are built to a bowl profile. The B04 is documented as an elongated seat with an overall size of 513 × 396 × 103 mm and a seat width of 374 mm in its dimension drawing; with the lid open it needs 534 mm of length and 555 mm of height clearance. A round bowl is a different reference, not a smaller version of the same product.

The T1 is a V-shaped seat measuring 495 × 435 × 115 mm, designed as an upgrade format for the tank-type pans described above.

The T1 weighs 3.9 kg and the B04 3.3 kg. Installation time still depends on the existing fixings, access and whether plumbing or electrical work is needed.

The plumbing and electrical connection

The connection work is straightforward but has fixed requirements:

• Water. The B04 takes its supply from the side, with a 13.1 mm inlet diameter, and ships with a tee-junction component and inlet hose so the existing fill line can be shared. Its working pressure is documented from 0.07 MPa dynamic to 0.75 MPa static, with 4–35 °C supply water.
• Mounting. The B04 includes a fast mounting plate with an installation adjustment range of 125–190 mm, along with adjustment sheets and fixings. The T1 ships with a fixing plate, adjustment pieces, bolts and nuts, inlet pipe assembly and filter.
• Electrical. Both are 110V-class configurations for North American supply. Confirm a grounded, GFCI-protected outlet within cord reach — the voltage and grounding guide covers the electrical requirements in full.

Surveying a bulk retrofit

Hotels and multi-unit residential buildings are rarely uniform. A property refurbished in phases can easily have three different pans across its floors, and a single sample approval on one of them is not evidence for the other two.

A workable survey method for a property:

1. Walk the floors and group rooms by pan type, photographing one example of each.
2. Take the five measurements once per group, not once per room.
3. Note outlet position and valve position per group — these often differ by stack rather than by room.
4. Sample one seat per distinct group, and approve per group.
5. Then order by group quantity, which also gives your installer a per-floor pick list.

Common bidet seat compatibility questions

Will an elongated bidet seat fit a round toilet?

Do not assume it will. The front of the seat and its support points need to align with the bowl. Select a seat documented for the actual bowl shape and verify its mounting dimensions. The B04 is documented as elongated; it should not be specified as a universal round-bowl option.

Can a bidet seat fit a one-piece or skirted toilet?

Some can, but the rear housing may conflict with the tank and the mounting bolts may be inaccessible underneath. Photograph the tank-to-bowl junction and mounting access, then ask whether the selected mounting kit suits that ceramic. A one-piece or skirted label alone does not confirm or rule out fit.

Does a bidet seat need a new drain or toilet rough-in?

A retrofit seat retains the existing ceramic and drain connection. Its fit depends on the bowl and mounting area. Rough-in becomes a new selection requirement if you replace the complete toilet with an integrated unit.

What if the seat fits but there is no nearby outlet?

The electric T1 and B04 require the documented power supply. Have an electrician assess a suitable grounded, protected outlet before ordering. Include this work in the installation cost assessment.

Send the five measurements, a side-on photograph of the pan, the outlet and valve positions, and the room count per pan type. We will confirm the fit, flag any group that needs an integrated unit instead, and quote by group.
